There are not many tags in CVS. I should have placed one before the 
checkpointing changes (8 days ago). Sorry!

The checkpointing stuff does not really destabilise anything because it can be 
turned off, so the current stuff should be OK.

Pulling cvs before 8 days ago (checkpoint cehckins)  is the stable point.
