Yesterday the very new Emdebian Grip distro booted on Balloon - the first boot on a non-x86 target. Grip is Debian lenny binary-compatible but somewhat smaller due to having the worst of the bloat removed. It's nice because Debian packages on top of it just work. The base debootstrap rootfs+networking tools was 72Mb. Installing random TCL packges on top of Grip (which brings in a pile of Debian stuff like pango) gets up to a 190Mb system (as opposed to about 400-something for plain debian). (you save ~30Mb by having the Emdebian grip instead of Debian lenny binary and source packages files). So that's pretty good. If we don't find anything horribly broken grip will probably become the default balloon distro. Wookey -- Principal hats: Balloonz - Toby Churchill - Aleph One - Debian http://wookware.org/
