I see where the confusion might have arisen here..

I used the term "open" when talking about file-formats. I meant "open",
in terms of avoiding vendor lock-in for new prospective developers, not
making the designs publicly available. The sarcastic "" quotes around
the word "open" were meant to acknowledge that the files still remained
closed.
