I'm after a similar issue. I'm trying to update a filesystem flash'd with 
an old TI kernel (2.6.18 on dm365) with a recent one (2.6.38 patched with 
the master of yaffs git).

I think the Nand driver is mostly the same in both our processors, so let 
me know if you'll do progress. (and i'll do the same, obviously)
