I don't think it's legit, for a compliant ethernet setup. It's also got
some EMC issues. With Ethernet, you're under quite strong
restrictions to keep the wires twisted & balanced. Also, the
magnetics and a connector take up nearly as much space as the
RJ45, so it's not a guaranteed space saver.
Add to that, if I put Ethernet on the board, there will be perpetual
"Why didn't you put 100M / 1G / Auto-MDIX / 802.11x / ADSL "
complaints. Perhaps any spare space would be better spent on a
second CF socket?
