Yes. This will be ripped straight from the Intel eval board, to make
driver writing a non-issue.

USB. It's cheaper to buy a bluetooth dongle than it ever would be
to build it into Balloon. The SSPs will also be available, so if you
want to drive Bluetooth that way, that'll work, too.

Tricky. Have a rummage through the archive - this was discussed
(but not decided) within the last coupe of weeks. It would be nice,
but not essential, since compact flash Ethernet cards are so
cheap.

Compact flash, or USB.

Yes. One socket for sure, maybe 2 if I can get squeeze the second
one in. Check the archive for discussions as to whether to support
hot-swapping. (current decision is no. Chime in, if that's a
problem)

Yes, although it'll be on a header, not a SD connector, so people
can put the slot where they like.

Serial ports, yes, of which some are IrDA capable. Again, on
headers, not having the transceiver soldered to teh balloon board,
since it would inevitably be in the wrong place.

Both supported on the PXA27x. They'll present on headers, but I
may also try to squeeze real (but tiny) USB connectors onto the
board. Working, built-in USB, is definitely one substantial
improvement over Balloon2.

Yep - same as Balloon2.05 (actually, same as 2.06 - presents on
a FPC ribbon cable as well as the 1.25mm headers)

No. This would need to be external. There's too much variation in
battery charging circuits for it to be safe / appropriate to put
battery chargers on balloon..

I'd imagine so - I haven't investigated. On my pile of things to do
is an external frame buffer with TV out, but I haven't looked at the
2700G. (To be honest, the PXA27x does everything I need.)

Yes - definitely external-only, for this, though.

Yes. It's extremely hard going, though. 100 pages of schematics is
always daunting.

Only if people ask - since everything is so fluid at the moment, it's
too early. However, since Balloon3 is more visible than previous
versions, I might stick sme preliminary designs out, if people think
they want them. (However, if people want hardware now, 2.05
works nicely, and it'll be a while before 3.0x is ready for
primetime.)

Protel DXP and Specctra, with Xilinx Platform Studio & Modelsim
for the FPGA. All depressingly non-free, but open-source
hardware tools aren't really sufficient yet...
