What do you mean by "efficiently"?
The mkyaffs2image tool will generally need some tweaking to be useful.
Different flashes have different layouts for ECC etc and thus you will
generally need to fiddle around a bit to get the binary layout you need.

That is a general programming question, not a yaffs one.
