I'm not sure what's been discussed, but presumably some of the work
being done for fast booting of netbooks can apply as well? The async
init call stuff isn't in mainline yet, but looks like it will happen.
Have you got the Debian parallel boot bits (insserv) enabled? If you're
using an initramfs than statically compiling in all necessary drivers
and ditching it gives a boost.
