Subject: Re: [Balloon] Most recent known good for FPGA
Please feel free to "fix the FPGA".
There have been a number of mods to the CPLD recently, and I suspect the
FPGA is out of step. Originally the CPLD VHDL was a derivative of the FPGA
VHDL.
However I suspect that recent changes to the CPLD VHDL have corrupted that
relationship an in the process broken the FPGA VHDL.

I would also like to start a poll on Balloon 4, and to follow this with a
meeting of interested parties to discuss the options.

Balloon 3 devices are still available but it typically takes 2 years for us
to produce a new board all the way to production, and then another year to
get our customers switched over to it. (Obviously we need to speed up but
starting now will help).

So Steve's offer of a Freescale i.MX35 is very timely.

What are the alternatives?

What features should we add/remove?

We are committed to keeping the same physical format and provide similar FFC
layouts where applicable, but the level of "plug compatibility" between L3
and L4 is an open question.

Please post your thoughts...

Cheers
