Hi

From a TCL perspective, I am delighted that you plan to go with FFCs.

Is it just the LCD and aux II I/O on the backside?

Can we achieve single sided TCL build without nastiness?

I've put together a draft set of pinouts for the connectors on Balloon
3. You can see it at

http://www.solidlights.co.uk/balloon/balloon3_connector_pinouts.pdf

The general philosophy was to use FFCs with lots of pins to save board
area, and divide up the functions fairly logically (although everyone's
opinions will differ!). A quick summary is this:

Internal ports: Camera, MMC, I2C. Things which will probably be
terminated on another PCB and connected to other electronics.

Analogue I/O: Audio in/out, analogue inputs (free bonus from the audio
codec), touch screen, and the 10 digital I/O lines from the codec

Comms: all three serial ports, USB slave, USB host, and USB OTG/host.
Things which will generally end up on a front panel somewhere.

Programming/JTAG: JTAG ports for ARM and Xilinx, plus console port, plus
USB slave. Handy for production programming of boards, testing or
development, all through a single connector.

Pinko: TCL's special connector, carried over from previous versions.

Samosa: The Samosa bus, as implemented on late TCL versions of Balloon
2.

Aux parallel I/O: 27 pins connected to the FPGA or CPLD. They're
normally the CF card address and data lines, but are presented here in
case someone wants to repurpose them, as discussed in last week's
meeting.

LCD: LCD connectors as in Balloon 2, plus the Pug connector which TCL
rely on. We could add a nice little FFC here if people really want to
use the new bits of the PXA LCD interface, but they're accessible
through the Samtec.

Comments welcome.
